FROM BACH TO TAKEMITSU
Takeo Sato - Classical Guitar
A collaboration with the Live Music Now - Yehudi
Menuhin of Munich
The classical period was not exactly a
perfect one for the guitar. On the other hand the
pre-classical era likewise the 20th century was a period
when guitar compositions boomed. The baroque era as well as
prolific contemporary composers had a passion with them. The
Japanese guitarist Takeo Sato –based on his Far-Eastern
temperament and his German education- will present a program
that connects those two periods by traversing through a
fascinating route from J. S Bach to his countryman and a
significant composer of the last century Toru Takemitsu.

TRANSCRIPTION ENSEMBLE
Giorgos Kandilidis, violin - Christos Grimpas, violoncello -
Nikos Zafranas, piano

Transcription Ensemble, a very
experienced ensemble in live performances that had the luck
to perform even in the prestigious Tate Modern in London,
are returning to their "birthplace". The idea of marking out
transcriptions for trio of famous works is an idea that took
shape in Rhodes in 2007. A musical tradition though that has
its roots in the 18th and 19th century. A time that the big
orchestras were very sought after. In those days not every
town had the opportunity to host massive ensembles. So in
order to please the audiences, legendary composers like
Handel, were producing transcriptions for small ensembles of
their symphonic works, that way donating their ingeniousness
all over the world. Transcription Ensemble's goal is to
highlight this wonderful tradition.

ΤΗΕ WIND SECTION OF THE ATHENS STATE ORCHESTRA
The roots of the wind quintets can be
found in the late 18th century and the court of Joseph II,
King of the Holy Roman Empire. While nowadays the wind
quintets are a popular type of ensemble, it wasn't always
like that. It took the music brilliance of Haydn -who
redefined them- and composers like Anton Reicha and Franz
Dazi, who established them in audience's consciousness, as
well as contemporary composers who believed in their power
and versatility. This developing course will be presented
ideally, by the distinct musicians of the Athens State
Orchestra, in a program that traverses through a lot of
different centuries and a lot of different styles.
