The roots of the wind quintets can be found in the late 18th century and the court of Joseph II, King of the Holy Roman Empire. While nowadays the wind quintets are a popular type of ensemble, it wasn't always like that. It took the music brilliance of Haydn -who redefined them- and composers like Anton Reicha and Franz Dazi, who established them in audience's consciousness, as well as contemporary composers who believed in their power and versatility. This developing course will be presented ideally, by the distinct musicians of the Athens State Orchestra, in a program that traverses through a lot of different centuries and a lot of different styles.
